HOW TO READ YOUR TYRES

The size of a tyre is on the sidewall of the tyre. You’ll see a series of numbers and letters, such as 205/45/R17 91V.

This is your tyres size, each number means the following:

205 - Tyres width in millimetres
45 - Sidewall height (%of the width)
R17 - Diameter of the tyre’s inner rim (inches)
91 - Load Rating
V - Indicates the maximum speed for the tyre when at full load (Known as the speed rating)

HOW TO CHECK YOUR TYRE TREAD DEPTHS

A quick and easy way to see if your tread depth exceeds the minimum legal limit is to take the 20p test. Simply place a 20p coin into the main tread groove and if the outer band of the 20p coin is obscured then it is legal. If the outer band is visible then your tyre may be illegal and unsafe and should be checked immediately. When taking the test, remember to check at least three locations around each tyre. We recommend you check your tyre conditions including pressures at least once a month.
